The beauty in loss

No matter what we do to prevent it we will eventually lose someone we care about; whether it be to death, distance, dissolution of a friendship or the end of a love affair.

Most of the time we see this as either a "good riddance" experience or one of despair.

I think it is part of the journey. Each person we encounter is for a special lesson, we may not know their teaching purpose or ours in their life. These experiences can toughen our skin or leave us more vulnerable and able to love.

Growing up I lost a few very key people unexpectedly. From my sweet aunt (she passed when I was 3, she was a special light, always sending sweet gifts like a tape of her singing me nap time lullabies), to my friend Joe who took his life early in his teens, to my sweet gramarie (she was elderly but sweet, always gentle and kind)  to my childhood frenemy Ethan (we competed over EVERYTHING and yet at the end of the day we were shooting free throws and laughing), to the toughest Cowboys I ever met my grandad and doc (those Two were tough as nails with a sweet spot for their Jenny). And my sweet grandma Dodson, she taught me that music is life and that no woman needs a man to complete her! She was a rare soul.

All of these people taught me things, some in just realizing today. He greatest of these lessons is that there is beauty on the loss. You learn where your soul resides. It is deep within you. Few people can tough it, but when they do you will never be the same. Even now, I cry as I think of their unique natures and the traits I took away from having them in my life.

The ability to be tough and persevere, to be sweet for no reason, to bring light, to feel my pain but to know it will pass, to laugh even if the day is hard and that a soft voice can be the greatest comfort of all. Oh! And that a butterfinger can end even the most competitive battle:) and wild socks can ease even the most devastating loss on the court!

So whether you lose someone forever or for a time beloveds, look to the lessons, feel your pain and smile, for you were blessed to experience the soul connection you encountered.
Rest in peace dear ones. I love you!
